President's Message 2017

Houston Reunion

Dear Holy Family & Medical Mission India Alumni,

Because of the massive destruction and devastation Hurricane Harvey brought to Houston just weeks before our reunion, there had been a lot of uncertainties and skepticism regarding the outcome of our 2017 reunion.  Many among us also questioned the feasibility of conducting the reunion in such severely affected region that was dealing with multifaceted issues including home and business losses. But, in spite of the damages the region and its dwellers suffered, the Houston alumni insisted on conducting the reunion and proved that their collective resolve and commitment were a lot tougher than the hurricane itself.

Thus, we celebrated HFMMIA’s fourth biennial reunion, another festive one, on Saturday, September 15th, 2017, that broke all previous records for attendance.  Needless to mention that Sr. Lorraine Ryan MMS, who graced the evening as the invited guest by arriving from Florida and presented the empowering activities of her charity, Women’s Circle, Inc., was pleased and thankful to receive the special fund alumni collected through raffles and generous cash donations.  Alumni of India’s various Medical Mission Sisters-established hospitals came from many states and regions of America, Canada and as far as Ireland. Witnessing the joy and excitement of the alumni as they reunited with their long-separated classmates and school mates was quite rewarding, indeed!

And most definitely, the Houston reunion organizers deserves a big round of applause for conducting the reunion under such unfavorable and uncertain circumstances.  Therefore, on behalf of the Holy Family & Medical Mission India Alumni Governing Board, I extend my sincere gratitude and congratulations to the organizers of the Houston Reunion for conducting the reunion not just successfully, but also quite colorfully.  I also recognize and appreciate the thoughtfulness and efforts they put forth toward printing the HFMMIA T-shirts and arranging the NASA Space Center Tour. Also, special gratitude go to the local alumni for volunteering to accompany us to the NASA center.

Additionally, the spouses, children and other family members of the local alumni deserve a special recognition for working behind the scene in various capacities to make the reunion colorful, entertaining and making it memorable by capturing the pictures.  Photographs of the event will be posted on HFMMIA website for you to visit and enjoy. I also thank the entire alumni for supporting the reunion from near and far, by their presence, awesome spirit and by opening the wallet.
Also, on behalf of the thirty-eight (38) alumni and friends who participated in the Caribbean Cruise, I extend my sincere appreciation to Rosy and Rafael Vennookkaaran for organizing the wonderful cruise and guiding us through the various phases of it, from registration to disembarkation. Together, they made an amazingly dependable cruise expert team. Because of their timely guidance and careful watchfulness, we felt secure, saved valuable time, and avoided many hassles during the embarkation and disembarkation processes of the cruise.

In conclusion, the Houston Reunion success and participants’ enthusiasm inspired the Florida alumni to volunteer to hold the next reunion in their state in 2019.  Due to time restrictions, some matters had to be deferred to be conducted via teleconferences on later dates. Results and details of the teleconferences including the names of the 2018-2019 executive board members will be posted on our website.

      Sincerely,
Marykutty Kuriakose MBA, BSN, RN
